Bountiful rain ; Kalawewa spills over

The spill gates of the Kalawewa , a key irrigation reservoir in the Anuradhapura district , were opened yesterday to discharge excess water following heavy rain experienced in the area.   
According to engineers in charge of the tank , the water level remained at 86 916 cubic feet .   

The spill waters have inundated the Kalawewa - Aukana and the area near the historic Aukana Buddha statue .
