19-year-old boy arrested for statutory rape of 15-year-old girl while living together

Investigations reveal that the 15-year-old girl, a Grade 11 student had been in love with the suspect

A 19-year-old suspected of rape and impregnating an underage girl was taken into custody yesterday by Ethimale police.   

Investigations reveal that the 15-year-old girl, a Grade 11 student had been in love with the suspect. Police said the girl had been under the care of her elder sister after her mother went abroad for employment as a housemaid and that she had been raped by the suspect for over a period for two years.   

She had been living with the suspect at the suspect’s house and her sister’s house. 

 Later they had rented a room and lived together. However, when she developed bleeding two days ago she was admitted to Ethimale Hospital and transferred to Monaragala General Hospital where the doctors examined her to find that she was pregnant.   

On information from the hospital authorities Ethimale police initiated investigations and arrested the suspect. He was to be produced before the Siyambaladuwa Magistrate last morning. OIC Ethimale Police CI R.M. Abeysinghe is conducting further investigations.
