Project 'WePlant', a mangrove reforestation initiative, was organized by the students of the Rotaract Club of the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT), a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the premier educational institute in Sri Lanka.

The initiative, held on April 26 at Paladi Lagoon (Ureni), Pottuvil in Arugam Bay, saw the planting of 1,500 mangrove saplings. Mangroves are critical for coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and carbon sequestration, playing a vital role in climate resilience.

The success of 'WePlant' was made possible through the collaboration of key partners, including Tokyo Cement Company PLC, Whisky Point Surf Cabana, the Sri Lanka Police Special Task Force (STF), the Sri Lanka Navy, and the Department of Forest Conservation. Their combined efforts significantly contributed to the project's impact on biodiversity and natural coastal defences.
