Repairs completed on Uma ela embankments

Under the “Great Irrigation Mission of Ditva Paradana Chiranaye Maha Wari” program, repairs were completed on the Medagodagama Gatahawulapatha embankment of the Uvaparanagama Uma Ela Project and the blocked Perawella Uma Ela embankment, both damaged by adverse weather, on the 14th.

The Medagodagama Gatahawulapatha embankment was completely destroyed by a landslide during the disaster. Using approximately 7,000 sandbags, the embankment was reconstructed within seven days. The blocked Perawella Uma Ela embankment was also repaired through intensive efforts, restoring the irrigation system to full functionality. Pix by Sumanasiri Gunatileke
