In the severely flooded area of Indivitiya, Ja-Ela—left without electricity for five days—the Aarogya Maitri BHISHM Cube, a mobile hospital system developed by India, has become a critical lifeline for affected residents.

The facility was set up in an open community space through a joint effort by the Director of Medical Services, the Commanding Officer of the Air Force Hospital Katunayake, Sri Lankan medical teams, and the visiting Indian medical contingent. The temporary centre offered multi-OPD services, laboratory testing, X-ray facilities, and a minor operating theatre.

Powered by its generator and supported by solar panels for essential medical equipment, the Cube ensured uninterrupted healthcare despite disaster-zone conditions.

More than 300 patients received treatment for conditions such as acute hypoglycaemia, prolapsed piles, trauma-related injuries, dehydration requiring IV fluids, and various OPD medical needs. The deployment restored healthcare access at a time when routine services were cut off.
