The IGP Challenge Trophy National Cadet Camp, which began on October 4, will conclude with a vibrant closing ceremony tomorrow (10) at the Sri Lanka Police College Aluvihara Sports Ground, Kalutara.
This year’s camp features 1,050 male and 525 female cadets representing 42 boys’ and 21 girls’ squads, selected from nearly 500 schools across the island, along with 40 senior non-commissioned officers.
Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala and Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya will grace the event, which will also be attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, principals, teachers, and parents.
Launched in 1972 at the Police Sub-Service Headquarters in Colombo, the Police Cadet Service has steadily expanded, with the IGP Trophy Camp now recognized as the pinnacle of annual training.
The National Cadet Corps, established in 1988 under the Ministry of Defence, brings together cadets from both the Army and Police Cadet Corps.
Organized by the Sri Lanka Police Cadet Division, the camp aims to instill discipline and leadership among youth. Starting tomorrow, the division will also roll out provincial programs for Grades 9–13 students focusing on nutrition, leadership, first aid, and drug prevention.
