As Sri Lanka gears up to celebrate its 76th Independence Day on February 4, a bustling small shop in Dematagoda echoes with the rhythmic hum of sewing machines.
Here, skilled Sri Lankan female tailors passionately stitch together the fabric of national pride, creating the country’s distinctive flags.
The flags, symbolising unity and freedom, have become a source of both economic empowerment for these artisans and a tangible expression of patriotism for the community.
