Cargills recently conducted the 7th and 8th regional Sarubima scholarship distribution events at Boralanda and Ruwalwela, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to uplifting children from farming communities across Sri Lanka.
The Boralanda event brought together 77 children from farming families in Boralanda, Bandarawela, Nuwara Eliya and Thispane, while the Ruwalwela event supported 61 children from Ruwalwela and Thanamalwila.
Educational scholarships were awarded across Grade 5, Advanced Level, Vocational and University categories, with laptops presented to university students to support their higher education and digital learning needs.
As part of its holistic approach to education, Cargills also introduced Smart Classrooms at both locations, enhancing access to modern learning tools and creating more engaging educational environments for students in rural communities.
Beyond education, the events extended support to farming families through the distribution of welfare packages, the implementation of water purification projects, and the provision of plastic crates at subsidised rates to assist farmers with post-harvest handling and reduce wastage.
This year, the company allocated over Rs. 115 million through the Cargills Sarubima programme to support both student scholarships and rural community projects, reinforcing its commitment to the welfare and development of farming communities.
Since its inception in 2008, the Cargills Sarubima programme has been a key pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.
