CMA to hold joint conference on ‘Cost and Effect on Industry and Services to Drive Business Performance’

The Joint International Cost Conference organised jointly by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka) and Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Grand Crystal Ballroom, Taj Samudra, Colombo.


The conference theme is ‘Cost and Effect on Industry and Services to Drive Business Performance’. The conference will cover topics on the need for cost records and cost accounting for achieving efficiency and productivity and removing wastage and corruption, how the Indian industry is adopting Cost Accounting Standards for improving business performance, efficiency and effectiveness with a case study and managerial costing for businesses to achieve global competitiveness and societal costing to achieve affordable pricing handled by experts from both India and Sri Lanka.


The inauguration and technical session one will have the welcome address and introduction to technical session one delivered by CMA Sri Lanka Founder President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala. 
Noteworthy presentations include ‘The Need for Cost Records and Cost Accounting for Achieving Efficiency and Productivity and Removing Wastage and Corruption’ by CMA Neeraj Joshi, Chairman of Cost Accounting Standards Board and member of council, the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and ‘Impact of Value Added Tax (VAT) on Costing and Pricing of Goods and Services’ by Athula Ranaweera, Managing Partner, Ranaweera Associates.


Technical session two will be chaired by CMA Sri Lanka Vice President H.M. Hennayake Bandara. The session will feature presentation on key topics, including, ‘How the Indian industry is adopting Cost Accounting Standards for Improving Business Performance, Efficiency and Effectiveness with a Case Study’ by CMA (Dr.) Ashish P. Thatte, Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI),  ‘The Impact of Societal Costing Framework on the Pricing of Goods and Services at an Affordable Price in a Transparent Manner’ by Tyrell Roche, CEO, Tibro Capital (Pvt.) Ltd and ‘Activity-Based Costing and its Application in Practice’ by Prof. A.A.C. Abeysinghe, Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management and Finance University of Colombo.


The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and it will be moderated by Ruchira Perera, Council Member, CMA Sri Lanka and Treasurer OPA. Eminent panellists, local and overseas, will contribute to the discussion.
