Tea production fell sharply in September 2025, though the cumulative output for the first nine months of the year remained slightly ahead of last year, the data compiled by Forbes & Walker Research showed.
Monthly production totalled 22.18 million kilogrammes, reflecting a 9 percent drop from 24.39 million kilogrammes in September 2024. The decline stemmed mainly from the Mid and Low Grown elevations, while the High Growns recorded a modest increase during the month.
Compared with 18.90 million kilogrammes produced in September 2023, the output in the same month this year was up 17 percent, indicating a recovery from the lower base two years ago.
For the nine months ending September 2025, the cumulative production rose one percent to 199.09 million kilogrammes, from 196.87 million kilogrammes during the same period in 2024. All elevations, except for Low Growns, recorded increases over last year.
Against 193.49 million kilogrammes produced in January-September 2023, the latest cumulative figure represents a 3 percent gain, with most elevations maintaining positive growth trends compared to two years ago.
