President holds talks with top executives of major Chinese corporations

During his four-day official visit to China, President Ranil Wickremesinghe held meetings with representatives from several major Chinese corporations, including China Communications Construction Corporation (CCCC), China Sinopec and BYD Company.


A statement from President’s Media Unit (PMD) said these discussions focused heavily on exploring potential investment opportunities and avenues within Sri Lanka.
“Key focal points included the development of the port city as an international financial centre, the formulation of new financial regulations specific to the Port City and the establishment of judicial and arbitration mechanisms exclusively applicable to the Port City,” the statement noted.
“Furthermore, the dialogue encompassed various sectors, including the electrification of Sri Lanka’s transportation systems, electric vehicle assembly and electric train services,” it added.


President visits CCCC headquarters

President Wickremesinghe visited the China Communications Construction Corporation (CCCC) headquarters yesterday on the invitation of its Chairman Wang Tongzhou.
China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC). CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. which is a subsidiary of CHEC is the project company that carries out the development of Port City Colombo.


CHEC General Manager, Overseas Business, Chairman Tang Qiaoliang, MD Sri Lanka Regional Company CHEC Jiang Houliang, former Port City Colombo MD Yang Lu and Current Port City Colombo MD Xiong Hongfeng represented CCCC at the meeting. Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry, Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardana, Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, BOI and Port City Commission Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody, Senior Advisor to the President Sagala Rathnayake, and Director Presidential Secretariat Thekshana Abeywardana participated in discussions related to the development of Port City Colombo and other development projects.
