Lanka Transformers (Pvt.) Limited (LTL) provided a state-of-the-art automation and motion research facility to the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Moratuwa (UoM) at a cost of Rs.10 million recently.
According to the Electrical Engineering Department, there is no other counterpart to the facility installed by LTL. The project was initiated after it was found out that there is an urgent need to modernize the electrical machines laboratory to meet the current higher technological standards.
LTL CEO U.D. Jayawardena said that more than 600 graduated from the UoM are employed by LTL. Jayawardena too is an alumnus of the UoM.
“LTL has been at the forefront in recognizing the need to support the cream of our country. UoM is one such place where we work closely as we employ hundreds of graduates at LTL. It took us nearly a month to complete the project and we are happy to see that the students will be able to make the maximum use of this facility,” he added.
The project was completed successfully with the collaboration of LTL, the UoM and the Pioneer Engineering Batch, which is the first engineering batch at the UoM.
Speaking on behalf of the Pioneer Engineering Batch (PEB), Ananda Sebastian said that his batch marked 50 years this year since entering the UoM. “We did not have most of the facilities that the students enjoy present. But we thought as a batch it is our duty to give the best facilities available in developed countries to our students,” he said.
The PEB designed and managed the project installation in consultation with the UoM professionals.
“The new research facility will enable students to carry out specific tasks related to electrical engineering smoothly and without any difficulties. It is easy to operate and such a facility will enable the students to engage in practicals with lot of enthusiasm,” he added.
