Kedella Enterprises Private Limited warned the public against fraudulent housing construction firms allegedly operating under names similar to its brand, stating that the company operates only from its main office in Alhena, Maharagama and has no branches or affiliated offices elsewhere in the country.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Chairman Krishantha Muthukudaarachchi said the Gampaha Police Special Fraud Investigation Division had recently taken legal action against an institution allegedly operating under a fake name similar to Kedella Housing Construction.
Muthukudaarachchi said certain groups were using variations of the “Kedella” name before or after other company names to mislead customers and carry out financial scams, with several individuals already falling victim to such schemes.
He urged the public to verify the identity and authenticity of housing construction firms before making payments.
According to him, some fraudulent companies collect advance payments ranging from Rs.500,000 to Rs.1 million from customers by promising to build houses.
He said Kedella Enterprises follows a transparent payment structure and generally collects around 60 percent of the total project value during the initial stages of construction.
Muthukudaarachchi added that despite repeated public warnings issued through social media and other platforms regarding such fake institutions, some members of the public continue to be misled.
Legal officer Indu Yapa said the genuine Kedella office exists only in Maharagama and noted that the company cannot take responsibility for legal issues faced by individuals who make payments to fraudulent institutions using the Kedella name.
She advised the public not to rely solely on online advertisements, but to personally visit the company, inspect completed housing projects and verify details before making financial commitments.
Yapa further stated that no police complaints or court cases have so far been filed against the genuine Kedella Enterprises Private Limited.
