Govt. updates donation channels after glitches in disaster relief transfers

As Sri Lanka grapples with the aftermath of the torrential weather and cyclone Ditwah, the government over the weekend issued payment instructions for disaster relief, after the donors reported difficulties in transferring funds to the designated Central Bank accounts during the ongoing national emergency.
To avoid further disruptions, the President’s Media Division said the contributors in Sri Lanka are advised to route the donations in rupees through a Bank of Ceylon account held by the Deputy Secretary to the Treasury. 
The foreign currency transfers are to be made to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, covering the USD, EUR, GBP, JPY and AUD accounts held with the correspondent banks, including Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas, ODDO BHF Bank, HSBC Bank PLC, MUFG Bank and Reserve Bank of Australia.
The authorities said the revised information aims to ensure “smooth and uninterrupted receipt of donations” from individuals, organisations and international partners.
The government added that the donors seeking further assistance may contact the officials through established communication channels and expressed appreciation for the continued support extended during the crisis.
