Commercial Bank’s management in a symbolic demonstration of support to the cause of breast cancer awareness

Commercial Bank of Ceylon employees across the country reported for work attired in pink on October 24, in a powerful show of solidarity with those affected by breast cancer and to help raise awareness of the importance of early detection, reflecting the Bank’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.

The symbolic gesture was part of the Bank’s broader commitment to creating a safe, equitable and supportive environment for women - both within its own workplace and among the communities it serves.

Throughout October, several Commercial Bank branch staff also came together to host breast cancer awareness sessions, amplifying the message that education and early detection save lives.

Further underscoring this commitment, Commercial Bank had joined hands with the Indira Cancer Trust as the Gold Sponsor of the 2025 TLC (Touch/Look/Check) Triathlon series conducted in Kilinochchi, Batticaloa, Matara and Colombo. The initiative combined sport and health education to promote breast self-examination and highlight the importance of early diagnosis.

Speaking about the Bank’s sustained focus on women’s well-being, Sanath Manatunge, Managing Director/CEO Commercial Bank said, “Breast cancer awareness is not only a matter of health, it is a matter of dignity, safety and empowerment. At Commercial Bank, we believe a truly inclusive workplace must enable women to thrive personally and professionally. Through initiatives such as our pink-attire campaign and our partnership with the Indira Cancer Trust, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the women who are the backbone of our workforce, families and communities.”

The Bank’s empowerment agenda extends well beyond its internal policies. Through its ‘Anagi’ women’s banking portfolio, developed in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank, Commercial Bank offers products such as the Anagi Women’s Savings Account and Anagi Business Loan for Women SMEs, designed to strengthen financial independence and entrepreneurship among women.

Complementing these offerings are training and certificate courses, capacity-building initiatives, and digital literacy programmes that help women entrepreneurs expand their businesses and adopt modern financial tools.

Through Anagi, the Bank has made women’s banking a strategic driver of inclusive growth, reflecting the belief that when women thrive, economies thrive.

Commercial Bank said it remains committed to investing in female potential within its organisation, in the SME sector, and across society, by continuing to champion initiatives that promote health, empowerment, and equality.
