Clive Fonseka appointed as acting CEO/GM of People’s Bank

Clive Fonseka has been appointed as acting CEO/General Manager of People’s Bank, with effect from January 1, 2023.

Fonseka is a veteran banker, with over 30 years of experience in local and global banks, specialising in treasury operations. Prior to joining People’s Bank, he served at Standard Chartered Bank and American Express Bank.
Fonseka has also been appointed by the Central Bank on multiple occasions to serve as a member of several key committees to develop the banking and financial services industry, which include the Market Working Group on Domestic Financial Market Infrastructure Development, Monetary Board Task Force to review the existing benchmark interest rates in the Sri Lankan financial market, Financial System Stability Consultative Committee and committee to study and identify the gaps and future requirements of the existing payment and settlement infrastructure.

In addition, Fonseka has served as President of the Association of Primary Dealers and currently is Chairman of People’s Leasing Property Development Limited. He also serves as a Director of the Association of Primary Dealers, Lanka Pay (Pvt.) Ltd, the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (Alternate Director), People’s Leasing & Finance PLC and Lankan Alliance Finance Limited (Bangladesh).    

Fonseka is a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He is also a Certified Member (CMA) of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Australia. Fonseka is a product of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa.
