Bank of Ceylon (BOC), in collaboration with Sri Lanka Post, inaugurated the BOC Agent Banking Centre in Analaitivu, a small island off the Jaffna peninsula, with nearly 650 families and a population of around 3,000.
For the first time, the residents of Analaitivu can now access essential banking services without traveling to the mainland.
The new centre offers savings accounts, remittances, Mithuru group loan payments, MSME facilities and digital banking solutions through BOC Connect.
This access is expected to empower fishermen, farmers, women, youth and small businesses to strengthen their livelihoods and financial security.
The opening marks a vital change for families who rely on support from relatives working abroad. With the BOC Agent Banking Centre, they can now receive remittances directly to the island through the trusted BOC network. This service not only improves convenience but also injects new energy into the local economy by enabling faster and safer financial transactions.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by BOC Chairman Kavinda de Zoysa, Acting General Manager/CEO Y.A. Jayathilaka, the corporate and executive management alongside Deputy Postmaster General Nivethitha Ketheesan, senior officials of Sri Lanka Post and the Northern province. Their presence highlighted the strength of the partnership and the shared mission of reaching undeserved communities.
Beyond providing individual convenience, the new centre will support community growth. Fishermen can better manage their earnings, farmers can obtain credit for essential inputs, women entrepreneurs can expand their ventures and youth can take advantage of digital banking to explore new opportunities.
Also, the 194th BOC Connect Agent Banking Centre, the second on Analaitivu Island at Vinayaagar Stores, Ward No. 5, Analaitivu South, Analaitivu, was inaugurated near the hospital, further strengthening access to essential banking services for the island communities.
With the launch of the Analaitivu BOC Agent Banking Centre, BOC continues to demonstrate its commitment to bridging distances, fostering financial inclusion and ensuring every Sri Lankan on the mainland or in remote islands has access to reliable finance and modern banking.
