Weather Alert: Keep out of sea for 36 hours

The fishing and Naval communities had been warned not to venture out in the sea for the next 36 hours by the Meteorology Department.

The Met. Department said that the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Potuvil via Hambantota would be rough and wind speeds might increase to 70 kmph at times.

Showers are also expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Southern Provinces due to the possibility of increasing of prevailing southwest monsoonal winds over the Island.

The Department said the showers would later develop in the Eastern, North-central and Uva Provinces during the afternoon or evening.

The Department warned the public to take precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning as it expected thundershowers in the Eastern, North-central and Uva provinces during the afternoon or evening.
