Suspension lifted on Pera Student Unions

The Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University Prof S.A. Abeykoon has lifted the suspension on Student Unions from January 1. All Student Unions functioning within the university were suspended with immediate effect from December 21, 2011 subsequent to a protest march that was to be staged by the Unions. The March which was scheduled to be held on December 21, was suspended following a court order issued against it.

The suspension was removed following a decision taken by a committee which recommended that the Unions would be allowed to function with no hindrance if its activities do not tarnish the image of the university and does pose a threat to the security of the students. (HF)
