Special Police unit to probe major financial frauds

A new Police unit will be set up to investigate large scale financial frauds, Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said today.

He said applications from Police officers in the ranks of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Superintendent of Police (SP), Chief Inspector (CI), Inspector of Police (IP), Sub Inspector (SI) Sergeant and Constables including female Police officers were called for to serve this unit.

SSP Rohana said the functions of the unit were to investigate crimes of large scale fraud, breach of trust, misappropriation and money laundering more expediently and to institute appropriate legal action against such transgressors.(Jehan Gunasekara)
