Need for special accounting service in the public sector

Stating that maintenance of accounts in the public sector institutions lack professionalism, Minister D. E. W. Gunasekera today requested for a special accounting service in the sector.

The Minister who was speaking during the committee stage debate on the budget in the House said the Ministry of Finance should focus on the proper maintaining of accounts by public sector institutions. He said lack of professionalism among the accountants in the public sector had opened doors for more corruption in the sector. (Yohan Perera and Kelum Bandara)
