Minister in un-parliamentary tirade

In what appeared to be another instance of the use of un-parliamentary words, Productivity Promotion Minister Lakshman Seneviratne today slandered UNP MP Harin Fernando with abusive references to his father and lineage.

Minister Seneviaratne started his tirade against Mr. Fernando during the debate on the 2012 budget. UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva rose on a point of order and asked Deputy Chairman of Committees Murugesu Chandrakumar to expunge all such un-parliamentary remarks from the Hanzard.

Mr. Seneviratne even poked fun at the physical disabilities of Mr. Fernando’s father whose hands had been amputated.

Heated cross talks ensued between the two members after such remarks. After the speech, they were about to trade blows with each other outside the chamber of the House. However, a possible brawl was prevented by the intervention of other members of both the sides. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
