Man sentenced to death for triple murder

A man found guilty of clubbing two men and a woman to death in 1994 in Mahawewa was sentenced to death by the Chilaw Magistrate’s Court today.

The man had clashed with another group over a gold necklace under the influence of liquor on June 22 in 1994 and had clubbed two men and a woman to death at the weekly fair of Mahawewa.

He had assaulted passersby and had clubbed a man to death at the fair.  Later on he had clubbed two beggars also to death. (Augustine Fernando)
