JEDB makes 115.2mn loss in 2010

All 17 estates under the JEDB had suffered losses to the tune of Rs.115.2 million in 2010, Minister of State Resources and Enterprise Development Dayasritha Tissera informed Parliament today.

Responding to an oral question raised by UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera in the House today, the Minister said losses have been made in these estates due to the reduction of the yield due to not receiving fertilizer and other requirements.

There had been an increase in production costs during the year according to the Minister. Unfavorable weather had also contributed to the losses as there had been no adequate rains in 2009. The Minister also said no re-planting had been done in any of the estates during the year under review. (Yohan Perera and Kelum Bandara)
