India rejects interfearance claims

The Indian government has rejected claims it interfeared in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs despite a top government Minister saying that "certain Indian officials" wanted president Mahinda Rajapaksa to lose the recent polls and worked towards it.

India’s PTI news agency said that India rejected the allegations and said it is "scrupulously known for our non-interfearance in other's internal affairs."

In an interview with Daily Mirror online, Minister Nandana Goonathileke had claimed that India "strengthened" the LTTE and the country's intelligence agency -- RAW -- created other militant organizations in the country after recognizing that Sri Lanka has been building good relations with the US.

"Even at the recent presidential elections certain Indian officials did not want President Mahinda Rajapaksa to win. Not the Indian government or the Indian prime minister but certain individuals," he told Daily Mirror online.

However PTI quoted Indian sources as saying people make subjective assessments and objectively speaking President Mahinda Rajapaksa or any senior leader in Sri Lanka will agree that India does not interfere in other country's matters. (Daily Mirror online)
