Fonseka begins fast to death

General Sarath Fonseka has begun a fast on to death to urge the authorities to allow him to talk to his children over the phone.

 His wife, Mrs. Anoma Fonseka told reporters a short while ago that her husband had been denied the right to speak to his daughters who are currently overseas and therefore he would fast on to death till his demand was fulfilled. 

However speaking to Daily Mirror online Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said the phone facility provided to General Sarath Fonseka was an additional privilege given to him while he is being detained and that the Army is not bound by any court order or any other law to facilitate calls between the General and his daughter.  (YP & GS)
