Watch out for Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith: International media expert

Colombo, May 5 (Daily Mirror) - While highlighting that the Catholic Church might look towards the East to find a successor to late Pope Francis, an analyst and media expert on religious affairs said one should watch out for Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.

“Watch out for Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith from Sri Lanka as the Church might look towards the East to find a new Pope,” media expert and expert on religious affairs Jonathon Morris said in his latest social media post.

However, the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka is of the opinion that there are no contenders for papacy. Member of the Communications Committee Archdiocese of Colombo Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando and National Catholic Mass Communications Director Fr. Jude Krishantha is of the opinion that there are no contenders for the papacy and the selection is different from an ordinary election.  

The conclave to elect a new pope will begin in the Vatican on Wednesday May 7 2025.
