VAT (Amendment) Bill, Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill passed in Parliament

Two financial Bills namely Valued Added Tax Amendment Bill and Inland Revenue Amendment Bill were passed in Parliament today.

Accordingly 82 members voted for the VAT Amendment Bill, while 41 against.

Some 101 members were absent at the time of voting. The third reading of the Revenue Amendment Bill was passed with 79 members voting for it and 36 against and 109 members were absent during the time of voting.

Among the absentees were former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, former President Maithripala Sirisena, SJB allies Tamil Progressive Alliance members, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress members and TNA members. (Yohan Perera) .
