Uva Province UDA Director, planning officer arrested over bribe

The Director and the planning officer of the Uva Province Urban Development Authority (UDA) were arrested by the Bribery Commission for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 14,000.

Director (Investigations) of the Bribery Commission, SSP Padmini Weerasuriya said the suspects were arrested at the Badulla UDA office.

She said the suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged by an individual at Wellawaya through the 1954 hot-line.

According to the complaint, the planning officer had asked Rs. 14,000 from the complainant to be given to the Uva Province UDA Director to get a plan of a land approved through Wellawaya Pradeshiya Sabha.

The suspects were to be produced in the Badulla Magistrate's Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
