Use of fossil fuel should stop: SB

The use of fossil fuel should be stopped as humans and animals have left a limited space to live on earth, former Minister S.B. Dissanayake said.

Addressing an event organised at Laggala in Matale yesterday, he said there are about 6,000 pages in the report which is scheduled to be presented at the World Environment Summit on November 26.

According to the report, a red alert has been issued to the world over improper activities done to the earth. As a result of those activities, will cause an uncontrollable increase in the temperature of the earth's environment.

India has decided not to use fuel-driven vehicles by 2030. Norway has decided to do away with the use of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2025. Even people in several states in the US have decided to keep away from using fuel-driven vehicles by 2030 and to convert to electricity.

China is building the world's largest hydro-electric power generation plant. France has become the world's highest electricity generator. However, China will exceed France's atomic power generation from their massive hydro-power generation. (Indika Aruna Kumara)
