US $ 2.5 million cyber theft: Australian Federal Police in Aussie mission helping SL police

Colombo, May 26 (Daily Mirror) - The Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers based in the Australian High Commission are currently assisting the Sri Lanka Police in their investigations into the cyber theft of US $ 2.5 million meant for payment to the Australian Government as part of debt servicing, an official said.

Sri Lanka lost US $ 2.5 million to cyber criminals who breached the computer system of the Finance Ministry.

Asked about the current status of AFP assistance in this regard, Australian High Commissioner Matthew Duckworth told Daily Mirror that such cooperation is ongoing at the moment.

He said ,"the AFP is supporting Sri Lanka police with their investigations in line with our existing arrangements for such matters. This is ongoing,"

"AFP officers based at the Australian High Commission in Colombo are part of this process," he said.
