Train accident: engine driver and guard suspended

The driver and guard of the locomotive engine which crashed in to a train at the Wilwatte Railway Station have been suspended, Railway Superintendent Wijeya Samarasinghe said.

Four passengers were injured yesterday when the locomotive engine collided with a train travelling from Rambukkana to Colombo at Wilwatte Railway Station. The injured were admitted to the Mirigama Hospital.     

A three member committee has been appointed to investigate the incident, even though initial investigations found that the signal lights and the breaks of the locomotive engine were in working condition.
