Tense situation in Maharagama as police remove protestors’ hut

Colombo, August 15 (Daily Mirror) - A tense situation was reported in Maharagama when police attempted to remove a hut set up by a group of 'Jana Aragala Sandanaya' members to distribute hand bills.

Banners were displayed in the hut against agreements signed by the government with India and the IMF agreement.

The Jana Aragala Sandanaya had organised a protest campaign in Maharagama which included distribution of hand bills and a signature campaign.

Police informed the protestors that the hut set up on the pavement must be removed as it is an obstruction to the pedestrians.

Heated arguments erupted between the protesters and the police. However, police removed the hut claiming that it is an obstruction to the pedestrians.
