Suspect dies in Police custody; probe launched

A special investigation had been launched after a 21-year old man who was in custody of the Pugoda Police has died, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said the suspect was arrested by the Pugoda Police on Sunday.

The suspect has reportedly fallen ill at the police station and had died after being admitted to the Ragama Hospital.

DIG Rohana said Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratna has ordered an immediate investigation over the death under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The Spokesman said disciplinary and legal action would be taken against the OIC and police officers of the Pugoda Police if they have in any way acted in an improper manner.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
