Sri Lankan passenger arrested for smuggling whiskey at BIA

Colombo, Dec. 14 (Daily Mirror) - A 28-year-old Sri Lankan businessman from Minuwangoda was arrested yesterady for attempting to bring a stock of foreign-made whiskey into the country illegally.

The arrest was made by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). The man had arrived on Emirates flight EK-648 from Dubai at 12:30 a.m. and was found carrying 69 bottles of whiskey hidden in his luggage, with an estimated value of Rs. 800,000.

He has since been released on police bail and is scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate's Court tomorrow, along with the seized whiskey bottles.
