Sri Lanka tourist arrivals top one million mark

Colombo, June 3 (Daily MIrror) - Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has surpassed the one-million visitor mark, recording 1,022,022 tourist arrivals during the first five months of 2026, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

The SLTDA said 145,745 tourists arrived in the country between May 1 and May 31 alone, reflecting the sector’s continued growth and rising global confidence in Sri Lanka as a travel destination.

India remained the leading source market during May, contributing 60,342 visitors. Other top-performing markets during the month included the United Kingdom, China, Germany and Australia.

Meanwhile, from January 1 to May 31, India maintained its position as Sri Lanka’s largest tourist source market with 250,260 arrivals.

The United Kingdom, Russian Federation, China and Germany also ranked among the top five source markets during the same period.

The latest figures point to a positive trend for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, which continues to play a key role in supporting the country’s economic recovery and generating foreign exchange earnings.
