Colombo, March 6 (Daily Mirror) - Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification paving the way for the establishment of six successor companies by transferring the functions and duties of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
The Gazette, released yesterday (March 5), will come into effect on March 9, 2026.
Under the notification, the six companies will take responsibility for electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and system operations. With this, the remaining provisions of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 36 of 2024—excluding certain specified sections—will officially come into force, marking the formal start of the CEB’s restructuring.
Officials said the move aims to modernize the electricity sector and improve operational efficiency across the country.
