Colombo, June 4 (Daily Mirror) - In response to concerns raised regarding the education sector at the recent Parliamentary Advisory Committee meeting, Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya announced the appointment of six dedicated subcommittees to address pressing issues and propose reforms.
The Minister made this statement while addressing the Parliamentary Advisory Committee, and pointed out the government’s commitment to improving the nation’s education system through focused, consultative efforts.
"It was decided to appoint six subcommittees to discuss and resolve the problems in the education sector, and accordingly, six subcommittees have been appointed," she stated.
The newly formed subcommittees will focus on the following areas:
Education Reforms
Quality of Human and Physical Resources in Schools
Admission of Children to Schools for Intermediate Grades
Establishment of the Education Council
Higher Education Sector
Skills Education Sector
The Minister noted that these subcommittees will provide a valuable platform for members to present their ideas and proposals to the Education Ministry.
Special attention has also been directed towards addressing the challenges faced by students with disabilities in accessing university education, alongside tackling teacher vacancies across the country.
During the session, members of the Advisory Committee highlighted a range of issues affecting schools and students in their respective districts. The Minister affirmed that appropriate measures will be taken in response to these concerns.
"This is a very important opportunity for MPs to meet with officials, raise the questions of the people in their districts, and work towards effective solutions," she added.
The Minister expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts of these subcommittees will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality and inclusivity of the country's education system.
