Colombo, June 1 (Daily Mirror) - Former Minister Ali Sabry came to the defense of Miss World Sri Lanka representative Anudhi Gunasekara, calling for dignity and support amid a wave of online criticism.
In a message shared on X, Sabry said, “Anudhi hasn’t stolen anyone’s spotlight — she’s simply stepped into her own."
The statement:
It’s both amusing and mildly tragic to watch a few self-absorbed voices unravel on X, consumed by envy over the attention Anudhi has rightfully earned representing Sri Lanka at Miss World.
Instead of celebrating her elegance on the world stage, they’ve chosen to lash out, dressing up insecurity as critique, and mistaking borrowed hashtags for conviction. Their outrage seems less about principle, and more about a desperate attempt to reclaim the applause from their carefully curated echo chambers.
But real confidence doesn’t wither in the presence of someone else’s success. And dignity, when genuine, doesn’t depend on engagement metrics to survive.
Anudhi hasn’t stolen anyone’s spotlight, she’s simply stepped into her own. The least we can do is have the grace to applaud it.
After all, the ring light was never the crown.
