Seven schoolboys arrested for gang raping underage girl

Colombo, April 4 (Daily Mirror) - A schoolboy said to be the boyfriend of an underage girl and five other schoolboys were arrested for gang raping a fifteen-year-old schoolgirl, the Homagama Police said.

Police said that they initiated investigations based on a complaint by the parents of the schoolgirl and took steps to arrest the suspects within a few hours. 

The fifteen-year-old schoolgirl who was allegedly gang raped was admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital and underwent a medical examination.

The schoolgirl had gone to meet her alleged boyfriend, claiming that she was gping ro attend a tuition class. At that time, the alleged boyfriend had taken the girl to a house in the Magammana area in Homagama.

Accordingly, within a six-hour period between nine in the morning and three in the evening, the victim was taken to three houses in the Magammana area in ​​Homagama by the boyfriend and raped. 

Police also said that she had been subjected to serious sexual abuse by her friends from time to time.

The arrested students are aged between 15 and 16 years and residents of the Magammana area in Homagama and studying in schools in the Homagama area. Two youths aged between 17 and 19 years, are said to be their friends.

The suspects who were arrested are scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate's Court.

The investigations were conducted under the instructions of the OIC of the Homagama Headquarters Police, Chief Inspector Praneetha Manawaduwa.
