SLTB bus-tipper collision in Weliara leaves one dead, 13 injured

Weliara, May 24 (Daily Mirror) - A road accident occurred in the early hours of this morning along the Colombo–Wellawaya main road in the Weliara area, resulting in one fatality and 13 injuries.

According to Sri Lanka Police, the accident occurred at around 2:45 a.m. when a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus enroute from Batticaloa to Galle collided with the rear of a tipper truck travelling ahead of it.

Twelve passengers on the bus, along with the driver of the tipper truck, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Tangalle Hospital for treatment.

Police confirmed that one passenger, who was critically injured in the crash, succumbed to injuries upon admission to the hospital. The identity of the deceased has not been established yet. The body is currently being kept at the Tangalle Hospital morgue.

Tangalle Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
