Colombo, May 29 (Daily Mirror) - Applications have been called to recruit 190 locomotive engineers, including 160 external applicants and 30 from within the department, Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara said.
Speaking to the media, Jayasundara said the recruitment drive was initiated following a government directive to appoint new staff in order to address the current shortage of locomotive engineers within the Sri Lanka Railways Department.
According to officials, nearly 600 applications have been received so far. Competitive examinations for both external and internal applicants are scheduled to be held in the first week of July.
Employees currently serving in the Railways Department will have the opportunity to sit for these examinations. Meanwhile, external candidates holding National Diploma in Technology (NDT) or equivalent qualifications will be eligible for selection through this process.
The department expects the recruitment to significantly strengthen its workforce and improve operational efficiency in the coming months.
