While announcing the conclusion of the 2021 (2022) GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination today, Examination Commissioner General L.M.D. Dharmasena said the said examination was the most difficult and challenging one in the history of the Sri Lanka Examinations Department.

He said there were officials and invigilators who did not report for duty at the respective examination centres due to internal administrative issues such as allowance payments, but those issues were finally resolved.

Subsequently we witnessed several violent incidents, curfew and civil unrest.

It was difficult to access facilities for printing, transportation and uninterrupted electricity.

Certain raw materials, such as paper and ink were hard to find and the costs incurred were unbearable.

However, in spite of all these difficulties and shortcomings, 517,496 candidates have appeared for the examination in 3,844 examination centres and 542 examination coordination centres, the Commissioner General said.

About 33 provincial collection centres were functional in all provinces during the examination.

He said 45,000 officials were engaged to conduct the examination successfully. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
