While stating that the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has gone into a crisis because of a dispute between the Council Members and the Municipal Commissioner, UNP MP Ranil Wickremesinghe today requested the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to intervene to resolve the problem.

“There is a crisis in the CMC as a dispute arose between the Municipal Commissioner and the council members. Distribution of relief to city dwellers who have been hit by the COVID 19 pandemic had come to a standstill as a result of this. Therefore I request Prime Minister Rajapaksa to summon the Mayoress, members of the Municipal Council and the Commissioner and resolve the issue through a dialogue.

The dispute between the Municipal Commissioner and the Council members led to protests by the council members and the officers attached to the Municipal Council.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
