Pujith new IGP

The Constitutional Council (CC) today approved the name of Senior DIG Pujith Jayasundara as the 34th Inspector General of Police (IGP), and referred his name to President Maitripala Sirisena for endorsement according to the Constitution, it is learnt.

The CC, chaired by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, met for the sole purpose of discussing the appointment of the next IGP from among three senior Police officers, recommended by the President.

DIGs S.M. Wickramasinghe and C.D. Wickramaratne are the other two names recommended by the President.

It is learnt that the CC chose Mr. Jayasundara for the post. Afterwards, it was referred to the President for approval. (Kelum Bandara)
