Protest over girls’ suicide causes traffic chaos

Colombo, May 08 (Daily Mirror) - Traffic along Duplication Road has been severely disrupted due to a protest, Police said.

The demonstration is taking place opposite the Ramanathan Hindu Ladies College in Bambalapitiya, in response to the recent suicide of a schoolgirl in Kotahena.

The protestors are calling for the immediate suspension and arrest of a male teacher at the school, who is accused of having sexually abused the schoolgirl, leading to her death.

The protestors have also shown their displeasure over the school principal, whom they have accused of having shielded and protected the perpetrator.

The 16-year-old girl had committed suicide in Kotahena recently, bringing the incident to the spotlight.
