Colombo, June 2 (Daily Mirror) - Private bus operators are scheduled to meet today (02) to decide on the future course of action regarding the failure to increase bus fares following the recent diesel price hike.
Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijeratne, said a final decision on bus operations would be taken after discussions with representatives of all bus associations.
He said the meeting is scheduled to take place this morning with participation from representatives of several transport associations.
“Our representatives and other association representatives are coming today. Specifically, we are discussing how to save our industry from the fuel problem. The government is not responding. They are on a certain policy,” Wijeratne said.
He further warned that private bus owners could unanimously decide to withdraw from operations if a solution is not provided.
“However, we as an association will discuss with the leaders and announce the final decision today,” he added.
