PM urges unity for peaceful Sri Lanka

Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, in her message marking Eid-ul-Adha or the Hajji Festival, called on all citizens to rise above differences and work together in unity and solidarity to build a peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka.

Extending her felicitations to the Muslim community in Sri Lanka and around the world, the Prime Minister said the festival, celebrated with deep reverence by Muslims globally, upholds the values of selflessness, unity and compassion.

She said that Eid-ul-Adha commemorates the boundless devotion to God and the spirit of generosity demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, reflecting humanity’s willingness to dedicate even its most precious possessions for the greater good and in devotion to God.

“The most important lesson we must all understand is the value of rising above our differences and standing together in unity and solidarity,” the Prime Minister said in her message.

She further said that the message of Eid-ul-Adha, founded upon sharing and compassion, serves as an example in the country’s journey towards building a strong, peaceful and prosperous nation.

Calling on the public to set aside narrow divisions, Dr. Amarasuriya urged all communities to act with respect and kindness towards one another and work collectively to create a society built on peace and solidarity.

The Prime Minister also wished that the Hajji Festival would bring happiness, peace, prosperity and blessings to all.
