Colombo, June 3 (Daily Mirror) - Three opposition parties and two independent groups have agreed to form a coalition to take control of the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha.
The decision was made during a meeting held on Monday, chaired by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) District Organiser and former Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka. The group also reached a unanimous agreement on appointing the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the council.
At the Local Government elections, the National People’s Power (NPP) secured 10 seats, while the coalition comprising SJB (5 seats), Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (2), Podujana Eksath Peramuna (2), United National Party (1), and two independent groups (2 seats each) have claimed a combined total of 13 seats.
As no single party holds an absolute majority in the Sabha, the Chairman and Vice Chairman will be appointed by the Southern Province Commissioner of Local Government based on the majority coalition.
