No significant increase in crimes: Minister

Colombo, Feb 27 (Daily Mirror) - There has been no significant increase in the number of crimes during the recent past, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said today.

He told Parliament that 14 incidents of crimes have been reported during the first two months of this year while 12 incidents each were reported during the first two months of 2016 and 2018 and 14 incidents in the first two months of 2024.

The Minister said this while responding to a question by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

He said according to data on past crimes, a similar situation is observed during the first two months of this year as well.
